The last sequence is shot digitally. Yuck!

I just wanted to inform those who care that I'm deep in development on my next film. So I'll only be logging for the time being. Not adding any info or replying to comments. But thank you for following me on this platform. It's been fun to connect with fellow film lovers. I'll be back as soon as I can.

Support the theaters when they open! Stay safe! :)

And no.. I didn't really watch it.

I so badly wanted to give this a 4.5 upon re-watch, but there's just something missing in that middle stretch that prevents a bumping of the rating. Still easily one of my favorites of 2017, and I'd like to touch upon a few additional things I really appreciated:

1. I really love the camerawork, especially as it relates to the interaction between the kids' world and the adults' world. There are several moments where Baker and Zabe choose to shoot the kids' heads from behind as a conflict plays out immediately in front of them, e.g. when Scooty watches Halley and Ashley fighting or when Moonee and Jancey walk towards the Child Protective Services people the first time. The heads…

This is a masterpiece. It’s everything I want from cinema. Bold and beautiful and angry and deep and hopeful and true.

The moment at the end of the movie when the format switches (right before they head into Disney) is one of the more profound moments I’ve had in a theater in some time. As a filmmaker, I knew where this was going. I understood immediately the literal theft of the Disney footage that was to come. And in that moment, form was married to content was married to character was married to story in a truly transcendent way, and it shook me to the core. When the picture cut to black, I broke the f*ck down.

“I feel bad for her because she’s about to cry. I can always tell when adults are about to cry.”

I’ve seen this movie four times now because I think it’s fun to feel my heart break a little more and more each time I watch it. The hero shot of Bobby walking out of the electrical closet after fixing the power and being cheered on by the motel is my new favorite moment on this watch.
