For diehard fans of HGTV's Home in a Heartbeat starring Galey Alix, the Florida-based Wall Street exec/social media DIY design maven who pulls off stunning home makeovers on the weekends, renewing the series for season 2 seems like a no-brainer. But on June 14, the day the season 1 finale was set to air on cable, Galey delivered some disappointing (and confusing) news to fans about the show.
"You may know by now, but since the merger we have moved from HGTV cable to being exclusively on HBO ‘Max’! If you want to see our finale episode, it’s up!" Galey posted on Instagram, where she has 1.6 million followers. "And if you want a season 2 of 'Home in a Heartbeat,' the BEST thing you can do is watch our full season on ‘Max’. The next 2 weeks of streams on Max will determine if we get to do this again. Thank you for sharing, watching, and all the amazing things y’all do for us 🫶🏻🥹💗!!!"
To clarify, all episodes of season 1 still appear to be available wherever you usually stream HGTV (Galey later corrected that point in a comment). But, as the star reaffirmed in a subsequent post, the fate of season 2 is tied to the first season's performance in the coming weeks on Max, the new streaming service that debuted on May 23 and merged HBO Max and Discovery+. Suffice it to say, fans have "feelings" about this news.
One fan, who was among the cable viewers who have had issues watching the show live on its designated airtime for weeks, opined: "This is Ridiculous! We were enjoying your show weekly on HGTV and couldn’t figure out why you haven’t been on for two weeks?" However, several cable viewers from Canada noted they were able to view the finale live, adding to the confusion.
For some, the notion of signing up for yet another streaming service was a no-go: "I pay so much already for my cable package I can’t afford streaming so I hope it will be back on HGTV."
There was even a suggestion that Galey pursue greener pastures at Joanna Gaines's Magnolia Network: "😢I just found you. You are awesome. Love love your style. Move to Magnolia, since you are on that level."
Yet another commenter had some serious words for HGTV and Max: "If you do not renew this amazing woman’s show, you are fools and we will come for you!" they wrote, to which the star responded, "This is feeling very Liam Neeson and I’m here for it 😂😂😂💪🏻💗💗💗 ."
It seems, though, that many fans are down for the Max viewership challenge:
- "Love your show and will watch them again on Max!! 👏👏"
- "I get Max with my AT&T phone service. Going to stream nonstop!"
- "Galey, I have been watching you on Instagram for a long time and I have watched every on HGTV. Now I’m going to rewatch the whole season and the finale on MAX!!! Stay exactly who you are because who you are is amazing, talented and inspiring to so many!!"
The positive vibes continued on Galey's emotional follow-up post featuring before and after photos from the finale episode (which, BTW, included her boyfriend, NFL wide receiver and The Bachelorette alum Dale Moss, joining in on the renovation fun).
"This very NON technologically advanced person begged her daughter to figure out how to download ‘Max' because I had to see the season one finale and we NEED another season! love you and your show! ❤️," commented one fan.
Though the show's fate still very much hangs in the balance, the DIY designer wrote, "Whatever comes next, I’m ready for it," whether that's returning full focus to her finance career at Goldman Sachs or going all in on Galey Alix Design.
