Can You Get Drunk Off Jello Shots?

Yes, they are made with alcohol! Although the alcohol content isn’t a lot, they are so fun and easy to eat, the alcohol can really sneak up on you.

This recipe is intended only for responsible adults of legal drinking age. It is purely intended for entertainment purposes.

Please enjoy these responsibly and with moderation.

How Long does it Take for Gelatin Shots to Set?

Assuming you use the proportions given in the recipe, it takes about 2 hours total to set up all the way. This of course also depends on the size of container you use used.

Be sure to keep them in the fridge until set, and ready to serve. If they do not set up it is likely that you used too much alcohol or liquid in general. Make sure you measure carefully!

How to Serve Peach Jello Shots

As with any jello shot, you can serve these in a variety of ways:

  • Disposable plastic shot cups.
  • Shot glasses. You will need to provide miniature spoons.
  • Muffin tins lined with silicone liners or cupcake wrappers.
  • As a sheet: Pour the gelatin layers into a baking sheet and cut them into small squares once set.

Tips for Making the Best Jello Shots

  • Place your shot glasses on a sheet pan before filling them to make placing them in the refrigerator easier.
  • If the shot comes out stiffer than normal, not enough liquid was used.
  • If the shot won’t set up, it means too much crown royal was used.
  • If you want the entire shot to be a little sweeter, you can skip on the whisky layer and make the whole jello shot peach flavoured.
  • Do not replace the water with alcohol, if you put too much alcohol into your Jello Shot then it won’t set.

Make Ahead & Storage Instructions

Jello shots store well in the fridge for up to a week, they are safe to consume for about 2 weeks but the gelatin does start to break down after a week, which can give the shots a weird consistency.

If you are making these jello shots ahead of time or taking them to a party, be sure to buy shot cups with lids and store in the fridge until serving. If you using glass shot glasses be sure to cover each with plastic wrap pressed down to the surface of the shot to prevent the shots from getting a hard “skin”.

You should plan to consume the shots within 30 – 45 minutes of removing from the refrigerator.

Can you Freeze Jello Shots?

Avoid freezing your jello shots. They won’t set up faster, they will just get icy, and the frosty texture is probably not what you are going for with these particular shots. Just stick to the refrigerator.

About the Equipment Needed to Make Jello Shots

16 2-Ounce Shot Glasses – As mentioned above, you can also use jello shot cups or just a sheet pan.

Turkey Baster – It is a lot easy and less messy to fill the shot glasses with a turkey baster. These are pretty inexpensive and can be found at most grocery stores.

About the Ingredients for Cherry Lifesaver Jello Shots

Jello – Use cherry flavoured jello mix.

Vodka – Use cherry vodka if you can get it, otherwise a good substitute is just using more cherry liqueur.

Cherry liqueur – Here, again, you can substitute with more cherry vodka if you like, but the flavour of half and half is really the tastiest.

Lifesavers – Use the jellies, not regular lifesavers, to garnish these shots, if desired.

How long does it take for jello shots to solidify? ›

In general, standard Jello Shots with one and a half cups of water to half a cup of liquor will set after spending two to four hours in the refrigerator. Do jello shots get stronger the longer they sit? ›

Jello Shots, like life, are all about balance. That said, if you want a strong one, it is possible if you leave it in the fridge long enough. In a Supercall experiment, we found that the strongest Jello Shot that will set is three-to-one ratio of 80-proof alcohol to water, and it took a full day to become mostly solid.

Should you spray jello shot cups? ›

How do you make jello shots come out easier? ›

Simply spritz cooking spray around the interior of your jello shot containers, and use a paper towel to spread it around so that all that's left is a light coating. To eat, use your finger to scoop out the jello shot and it should release from the cup much easier.

What alcohol is good in jello shots? ›

This jello shot recipe uses 1/2 cup vodka for 12 shots = 1/3 ounce vodka per shot. That's 4 jello shots to equal 1 regular shot of vodka. Even if you take out the cold water and use 1 cup vodka = that's still only 2/3 ounce vodka per shot. This is typical of jello shots.

Why is Jell-O given in hospitals? ›

Why are jello shots banned in NY? ›

How far in advance should you make jello shots? ›

Jello shots taste best fresh, so make them the day of your event or up to 2 days before. Technically, you can make them more in advance, but they tend to shrivel and shrink after a week in the fridge. Don't serve them if they are more than a week old.
