5 Largest Flea Markets in Texas: Biggest, Best, Most Unique (2024)

“Everything is bigger in Texas!” and that includes flea markets! Today we’re going to look at the biggest flea markets in Texas which also happen to be some of the most popular flea markets in the state.

First Monday Trade Days, Canton, TX

This is one of the oldest flea markets in the country and they also claim to be the world’s largest flea market. I’m not sure about that but it is definitely the biggest one I’ve ever been to.

Where

Located in the charming small town of Canton, Texas, First Monday or Canton Trade Days is often referred to as the “Granddaddy of Texas Flea Markets.” Dating back to the mid-1850s, this sprawling market covers hundreds of acres and features over 6,000 vendors during its monthly events. Visitors can expect to find everything from antique furniture to handcrafted jewelry and artisanal foods.

When

It’s a little hard to keep up with the dates of this market. The confusion comes because this sale isn’t actually on the first Monday of the month, it’s the weekend before.

Cost

  • free admission
  • Parking is $10 per car

Tips

  • True antiques, clothing, jewelry, food, handmade decor, new home décor, and a wide variety of items can be found in the pavilions. There are some great foodvendors, too!
  • Antique Alley, or the “fields” as many a serious shopper will call it, is a true field, an open-air bargain hunters’ paradise! You will find a wide variety of things in that large outdoor market area behind the pavilions.
  • There are several indoor flea market buildings on the grounds also.
  • There is often live music on the walkway in the middle of the pavilions.
  • Canton can be a nice full-day trip but the best way to experience it is to plan a weekend trip. I’ve written a whole article about just First Monday Trade Days so make sure you check it out before planning a trip.
  • Many vendors start to pack up early on Sunday afternoons and you can get great prices at this time!
  • Remember… they are NOT actually open on the first Monday of every month!

With a rich history and an impressive selection, this Canton flea market is a must-visit for any avid treasure hunter.

I don’t want to bug you with a pop up but if you enjoy going to flea markets and thrift stores and upcycling items, please scroll down to the bottom of this list and sign up for our weekly email. Thanks so much!!!

Tips

Antique Alley, Cleburne to Waxahachie

Where:

Antique Alley is a 40+ mile-long trail of flea markets, garage sales, and antique shops that span from Cleburne to Waxahachie. Follow State Highway 4 from Cleburne to Grandview, then Farm to Market Road 916 from Grandview through Maypearl to Waxahachie. Each of the small towns will have booths and food trucks set up downtown and there are LOTS of random garage sales, barn sales, and several larger flea market venues along with way.

When:

  • Antique Alley is a semi-annual event, happening the third weekend of April and September.

Cost:

  • no entrance fees
  • free parking

Tips:

  • I truly believe that Antique Alley is the best place on this list to get good deals on vintage items
  • The garage sales in different locations along the way are the best places to get household items, toys, clothes, car stereo parts, tools, etc
  • I have a booth in an antique shop in downtown Waxahachie and another small one in Cleburne. If the weather is ever bad, duck into the shops. The vendors stock up for Antique Alley weekends!
  • Look for Victorian items in downtown Waxahachie and don’t miss driving through the old neighborhoods to look at the gingerbread houses!
  • I’ve also written several articles about Waxahachie so check them out here:

    • Our Farmhouse Style Lunch at Farm Luck in Waxahachie, Texas
    • High Cotton Emporium, Vintage Shop in Waxahachie, Texas
  • There are often antique fairs and other special events during this weekend.
  • Don’t miss the fried pies on Friday and Saturday. I tease that they’re the greatest thing about Antique Alley! These are made by local Mennonite families and are not open Sun.

Nestled in the vibrant city of Austin, the Austin Country Flea Market is a beloved local gem. Open every weekend, this outdoor flea market offers a diverse array of goods, including vintage clothing, handmade crafts, leather goods, fresh produce, and other various items. I’ve never been to these next few to let me know if you know anything about them.

  • Old Town Springin the Houston area is not really a flea market. I need to do a little more research to find a Houston flea market. Please let me know if you know of one.
  • Bussey’s Flea Market
  • Buffalo Gap Flea Market
  • Third Monday Trade Days
  • Alamo Marketplace— This was advertised as the largest indoormarket square in San Antonio but it looks like it might have closed in recent years. Anyone been there?
  • Dallas Flea Market— I heard there was also a flea market in Dallas off Grand Avenue near high school football stadiums but can’t find any info about it. Please let me know if you know anything about it.
